01Best overall

Roborock Q7 M5+

Buy the Q7 M5+ for a tidy, mostly hard-floor home that wants Roborock's mapping and a self-empty dock at the bottom of the range. Carpet-heavy homes and shedding pets are better served by the Q10 S5+.

  • Pick it ifTidy hard-floor homes and apartments that want LiDAR mapping and a self-empty dock without paying for mop automation

  • Skip it ifHomes with wall-to-wall carpet, shedding pets, or floors strewn with cords and toys

What stands out

  • LiDAR mapping with multi-level maps, room splitting and no-go zones, in the same app as Roborock's flagships
  • RockDock Plus holds a 2.7 L bag that Roborock rates for up to seven weeks
  • Vacuum Wars measured 2.24 kPa of sealed suction, the 12th-highest result in its records
  • Scored 158 on Vacuum Wars' dried-stain mopping test against a 93 average

Flaws to know

  • The mop pad does not lift, so it drags across rugs unless you unclip it or draw no-mop zones
  • No obstacle-avoidance sensor; cords, socks and pet toys have to be picked up first
  • 43 percent of test hair wrapped the roller in Vacuum Wars' tangle test, worse than average
  • TechGearLab measured 57 percent carpet pickup and 26 percent pet hair pickup and ranked it 20th of 23

Why it made the list. The lowest-cost Roborock with a self-empty dock: LiDAR multi-floor maps, a 2.7 L bag rated for about seven weeks and the 12th-highest sealed suction Vacuum Wars has measured. No mop lift and no obstacle sensor, so it belongs in a tidy, mostly hard-floor home.

02Best budget

eufy Auto-Empty C10

The C10 is the budget pick for a carpeted home with low furniture that wants mapping and self-emptying and can live without a mop. Keep the floor clear; it has nothing to dodge cords with.

  • Pick it ifCarpeted apartments with low sofas and beds, floors kept clear of cords, and owners who do not need mopping

  • Skip it ifAnyone who wants a mop, obstacle avoidance, or a robot that copes with a cluttered floor

What stands out

  • 2.85 in tall, about an inch lower than the typical LiDAR robot, so it reaches under more furniture
  • Vacuum Wars measured 86 percent embedded-sand pickup on carpet and 100 percent flattened pet hair
  • 3 L dock bag that eufy rates for up to 60 days, the largest among our picks
  • Extending side brush reaches corners and baseboards that a fixed brush skips

Flaws to know

  • Vacuum only: no pad, no tank
  • No obstacle avoidance; RTINGS found it bumps furniture repeatedly and cannot avoid pet waste
  • RTINGS reports it leaves a lot of pet hair behind on carpet, a sharp disagreement with Vacuum Wars' result
  • Sealed suction and airflow measured below the class average by Vacuum Wars

Why it made the list. A vacuum-only robot just 2.85 in tall with an extending side brush and a 3 L bag rated for about 60 days. Vacuum Wars measured 86 percent embedded-sand pickup on carpet and 100 percent flattened pet hair, though RTINGS found it left pet hair behind on carpet.

03Best premium

MOVA P10 Pro Ultra

Buy the P10 Pro Ultra for a mostly hard-floor home that wants the dock to wash, dry and refill the mop and a robot that steers around everyday clutter. Skip it for carpet and a shedding pet: all three labs we cite found its pet hair pickup weak.

  • Pick it ifMostly hard-floor homes that mop daily and cannot always keep cables and socks off the floor

  • Skip it ifCarpet-heavy homes with a shedding pet, and furniture with less than about 4.1 in of clearance

What stands out

  • Dock empties into a 3.2 L bag rated up to 75 days, washes the pads in hot water, dries them with hot air and refills the robot's tank
  • RGB camera plus 3D structured light avoided 19 of 24 objects on Vacuum Wars' course; RTINGS rated its obstacle avoidance exceptional
  • Only 4 percent hair wrap in Vacuum Wars' 7-inch hair test against a 38 percent average, and 81 percent embedded-sand pickup on carpet
  • Vacuum Wars estimated about 2,157 sq ft per charge from the 5,200 mAh battery, roughly twice its 1,015 sq ft average

Flaws to know

  • Weak on pet hair in carpet: 66 percent at Vacuum Wars against an 80 percent average, 40 percent at TechGearLab, poor at RTINGS
  • Dried-on stains scored 73 in Vacuum Wars' test against a 93 average
  • RTINGS found it does not use its side brush on carpet, so carpet edges and corners are missed
  • TechGearLab's unit still ran into a fake pet mess, so a quick pre-run tidy still helps

Why it made the list. The only pick with a camera and a hot-water pad wash. Its dock empties into a 3.2 L bag rated up to 75 days, washes the spinning pads in heated water, dries them with hot air and refills the tank, and Vacuum Wars counted 19 of 24 obstacles avoided. Pet hair in carpet is the weak spot, and Vacuum Wars, TechGearLab and RTINGS all say so.

04Best for carpet and pet hair

Roborock Q10 S5+

The Q10 S5+ is the robot to buy for carpet and pet hair in this class: the best deep-clean and tangle results in the group, plus a mop that lifts for rugs. Its obstacle avoidance is weak, so you still pick up cords first.

  • Pick it ifCarpeted homes with shedding pets and mixed flooring that want one robot to vacuum and mop in a single run

  • Skip it ifCluttered floors, or anyone who wants the dock to wash the mop pad

What stands out

  • 96 percent embedded-sand removal on carpet in Vacuum Wars' test, tied for the highest score in its records
  • 0 percent hair wrap on the JawScrapers comb brush against a 38 percent test average
  • VibraRise 2.0 pad lifts 8 mm on carpet, so vacuum and mop runs can be combined
  • Vacuum Wars estimated about 1,240 sq ft per charge from the 5,200 mAh battery, above its 1,051 average

Flaws to know

  • Reactive Tech obstacle avoidance scored 6 of 24 on Vacuum Wars' course against a 16.6 average
  • The dock only empties the bin; pad washing and water refills are by hand
  • Vacuum Wars noted early owner reports of units failing within days or weeks

Why it made the list. Tied for the best carpet deep-clean result in Vacuum Wars' records (96 percent) with 0 percent hair wrap, a vibrating mop that lifts 8 mm for rugs and a 5,200 mAh battery. Its obstacle avoidance scored 6 of 24, so floors need to be clear.

How to choose a robot vacuum under $500

The four picks share a floor: LiDAR navigation and a dock that empties the bin. That is what this class buys in 2026, and a robot without both is an older design at a new price. What separates the four is what each gives up to get there.

Model Mop Mop lift Obstacle avoidance Carpet sand pickup (Vacuum Wars) Hair wrap (Vacuum Wars) Bag Height
Roborock Q7 M5+ Passive pad No None 75% 43% 2.7 L, about 7 weeks 3.9 in
eufy Auto-Empty C10 None n/a None 86% 37% 3 L, about 60 days 2.85 in
MOVA P10 Pro Ultra Dual spinning, dock hot-washed Yes, 10.5 mm Camera and structured light (19 of 24) 81% 4% 3.2 L, up to 75 days 3.8 in
Roborock Q10 S5+ Vibrating pad Yes, 8 mm Structured light (6 of 24) 96% 0% 2.7 L, about 7 weeks 3.9 in

01Start with LiDAR and a self-empty dock

LiDAR is what turns a robot from a bumper car into something you can schedule by room. All four picks map with a laser, split the map into rooms, store more than one floor and accept no-go zones. The self-empty dock moves the chore from every run to every month or two. Bags run from 2.7 L on the two Roborocks (rated about seven weeks) to 3 L on the eufy (about 60 days) and 3.2 L on the MOVA (up to 75 days). A shedding dog shortens all of those ratings.

02Judge carpet by measured pickup, not by pascals

The two Roborocks carry a 10,000 Pa rating and the MOVA 13,000 Pa, and the eufy's 4,000 Pa figure would put it last on paper. The measurements say otherwise. Vacuum Wars pulled 86 percent of embedded sand out of carpet with the C10, 81 percent with the P10 Pro Ultra and 75 percent with the Q7 M5+, while the Q10 S5+ hit 96 percent, tied for the best result in its records. TechGearLab measured the Q7 M5+ at 57 percent carpet pickup and ranked it 20th of 23; it scored the MOVA 8.9 out of 10 on carpet and ranked it fifth. RTINGS rated the MOVA's carpet cleaning poor, because it does not use its side brush on carpet and its brushroll lacks agitation on low pile. If carpet is more than a couple of rugs, weight this criterion above everything else.

03Pet hair is two tests, and the labs disagree

Pet hair pickup and hair wrap are separate problems. On flattened pet hair Vacuum Wars measured 100 percent for the C10, 96 percent for the Q10 S5+, 79 percent for the Q7 M5+ and 66 percent for the P10 Pro Ultra. RTINGS found the C10 left a significant amount of pet hair on carpet and rated the MOVA's pet hair pickup poor, and TechGearLab measured the Q7 M5+ at 26 percent and the MOVA at 40 percent. Only the Q10 S5+ comes through every source with a clean record. On hair wrap Vacuum Wars measured 0 percent for the Q10 S5+, 4 percent for the P10 Pro Ultra, 37 percent for the C10 and 43 percent for the Q7 M5+, against a 38 percent average.

04Mop lift decides whether mixed floors are one job or two

A mop that cannot lift has to come off before the robot crosses a rug, or be fenced out with no-mop zones. That is the Q7 M5+'s situation, and Vacuum Wars lists the missing lift among its main cons. The Q10 S5+ lifts its vibrating pad 8 mm and the MOVA lifts its spinning pads 10.5 mm, so both can vacuum and mop a mixed floor in one run. The C10 does not mop at all. On dried stains, Vacuum Wars scored the Q7 M5+ at 158, the Q10 S5+ at 103 and the P10 Pro Ultra at 73 against a 93 average. The MOVA's edge is upkeep, not stain power.

05Obstacle avoidance is the first thing cut

Only the MOVA has a camera. The Q7 M5+ and C10 find cords and socks with the bumper, and RTINGS reported the C10 bumping furniture repeatedly. The Q10 S5+ uses a structured-light sensor that sees a chair leg or a shoe but not a cable, and Vacuum Wars scored it 6 of 24 on its obstacle course against a 16.6 average. The P10 Pro Ultra pairs an RGB camera with 3D structured light and avoided 19 of 24; RTINGS called its avoidance exceptional, though TechGearLab's unit still ran into a fake pet mess. With the other three, pick up the floor before a run and draw a no-go zone around the power strip.

06Dock automation: what the extra money buys

Three of the four docks only empty the bin. The MOVA's also washes the pads in heated water (149°F per MOVA, 140°F per Vacuum Wars), dries them with hot air, refills the robot from a 4.5 L clean tank, adds cleaning solution and cleans its own washboard. The cost is a base station TechGearLab measured at 13.5 by 18 by 23 inches and a robot that gives up the Roborocks' carpet and pet hair advantages. For boiling-water pad washing, see our robot vacuum and mop combos list.

07Height, noise and running costs

The C10 is 2.85 inches tall; the other three are 3.8 to 3.9 inches by the manufacturers' figures, and TechGearLab and RTINGS both found the MOVA needs about 4.1 inches. On noise, TechGearLab measured the Q7 M5+ at 55.7 dB cleaning and 71.4 dB emptying and the P10 Pro Ultra at 53.3 and 67.8 dB; robot-review.com put the C10 at about 51 and 72 dB. All four use disposable dock bags, the two Roborocks share the same bag, the three mopping robots wear through pads, and the MOVA also uses cleaning solution.

What we left out and why

Models we considered, and why each one did not make the list.

  • Every Ecovacs Deebot

In August 2024 TechCrunch reported that security researchers Dennis Giese and Braelynn Luedtke showed Bluetooth flaws that let an attacker take over Ecovacs robots from about 130 meters away and reach the camera and microphone, and that the company would not fix them. We skip Ecovacs until that changes.

  • Roborock Q7 M5 (no dock) and Q7 L5

Vacuum Wars confirms the Q7 M5 is our top pick without the dock, and a self-empty dock is our baseline. The Q7 L5 is the same design rated at 8,000 Pa, per SmartRobotReviews.

  • Roborock Q10 X5+

The Q10 S5+ with a plain lifting mop plate instead of the vibrating pad, per SmartRobotReviews. Buy it only if it is clearly cheaper.

  • Roborock QV 35A and QV 35S

Both add a pad-washing dock, but robot-review.com found the 35A washes and dries cold and does not reach into high-pile carpet, and we found no comparable lab measurements for either.

  • eufy Omni C20

Its dock washes pads in cool water, but Vacuum Wars measured 54 percent hair wrap, 75 percent on embedded sand and only about 525 square feet per charge against a 1,015 average.

  • Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2

Our previous premium pick. It was sold out on Dreame's US store on September 28, 2026 and is absent from TechGearLab's 2026 roundup, where the MOVA P10 Pro Ultra is Best for Most People.

  • Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 3

Launched in Europe and parts of Asia; as of late September 2026 Dreame's US store had no page for it.

  • Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2

A camera, a 149°F wash and a 100-day bag, per RoboVacGuide, but it usually sits just above this class.

  • MOVA P10 Pro Ultra Gen 2

Usually just above this class. Vacuum Wars found it mops far better, but without a camera it avoided 4 of 24 objects and did worse on hair, so Vacuum Wars still recommends the original.

  • Roborock Qrevo S5V

Vacuum Wars calls it a strong value only when discounted into this class; it avoided 6 of 24 obstacles and washes its pads in unheated water.

  • eufy Omni C28

Well above this class in late September 2026; it is the budget pick in our robot vacuum and mop combos list.

  • iRobot Roomba

iRobot filed for Chapter 11 on December 14, 2025 and passed to its contract manufacturer Picea Robotics in January 2026; we are waiting for the new owner to build a track record.

  • Unbranded robots

Excluded for lack of US parts supply and app support history.

Frequently asked questions

Is 10,000 Pa enough suction?

Yes for anything short of deep-pile carpet, and the rating is a poor guide anyway. Vacuum Wars measured the 4,000 Pa eufy C10 ahead of the 10,000 Pa Q7 M5+ on embedded sand. Look at measured carpet and pet hair results instead.

Which one should I buy for a shedding dog?

The Roborock Q10 S5+: 96 percent flattened pet hair and 0 percent hair wrap in Vacuum Wars' tests, and no dissenting lab. The eufy C10 is the budget alternative, though RTINGS disputes its 100 percent result at Vacuum Wars. Skip the MOVA: all three labs found its pet hair pickup on carpet weak.

Do I need obstacle avoidance?

If your floors are usually clear, no. If cords, toys or pet accidents are regular, the MOVA P10 Pro Ultra is the only pick with a camera, and it avoided 19 of 24 objects in Vacuum Wars' course. The Q10 S5+'s sensor helps with larger objects only.

How long do the dock bags actually last?

The manufacturer ratings (about seven weeks for the Roborocks, about 60 days for the eufy, up to 75 days for the MOVA) assume light shedding. Expect less with a shedding pet or daily runs.

Should I wait for a sale?

These models are regularly discounted around Prime Big Deal Days (October 6-7, 2026) and Black Friday (November 27, 2026). If you are reading this within a few weeks of either, waiting is reasonable.

Which one fits under low furniture?

The eufy C10 at 2.85 inches. The other three are 3.8 to 3.9 inches on paper, and the MOVA needed about 4.1 inches in lab measurements. Measure the gap before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best robot vacuum for pet hair under $500?

The Roborock Q10 S5+. Vacuum Wars measured 96 percent flattened pet hair pickup and 0 percent hair wrap, and it is the only pick with a clean record on pet hair across every source we checked. For more options, see our robot vacuums for pet hair list.

Which robot vacuum is best for a small apartment on a tight budget?

The eufy Auto-Empty C10, the least expensive of the four. It is only 2.85 in tall, so it reaches under low sofas and beds, and its 3 L bag is rated for about 60 days. It does not mop and has no obstacle avoidance, so pick up cords before a run.

Can I get a robot vacuum and mop combo under $500?

Yes. The Roborock Q10 S5+ vacuums and mops in one run and lifts its vibrating pad 8 mm over rugs. The MOVA P10 Pro Ultra adds a dock that hot-washes and dries the pads. Our robot vacuum and mop combos list covers more models.

Do I need LiDAR navigation?

For most homes, yes. LiDAR lets the robot map by room, store more than one floor and respect no-go zones, so you can schedule the kitchen daily and the bedrooms weekly. All four picks have it; a robot without it in this class is an older design.

How often do you empty a self-emptying robot vacuum?

The makers rate the dock bags at about seven weeks for the two Roborocks (2.7 L), about 60 days for the eufy (3 L) and up to 75 days for the MOVA (3.2 L). A shedding dog or cat fills them faster.

How we chose

We compared the self-emptying LiDAR robot vacuums Roborock, eufy and MOVA sell in the under-$500 class, using measured results from Vacuum Wars, TechGearLab and RTINGS for carpet pickup, pet hair, hair wrap and obstacle handling. The short answer: the Roborock Q7 M5+ is the default for a tidy hard-floor home, the Roborock Q10 S5+ is the better buy for carpet and pets, the eufy C10 is the lowest and least expensive, and the MOVA P10 Pro Ultra is the only one whose dock washes the mop.

We started with the current Roborock Q-series, eufy, Dreame and MOVA (Dreame's sub-brand) robots that ship with a self-empty dock and LiDAR navigation and sit in this class at typical street pricing. We ranked them on independent measurements published by Vacuum Wars, TechGearLab and RTINGS (embedded sand on carpet, flattened pet hair, hair-wrap percentage, obstacle-course score) and on manufacturer figures for bag life, battery and height. We have not used these robots ourselves; every claim is attributed to a named test or a spec sheet. Ecovacs was excluded on security grounds and unbranded robots for parts and support reasons.
