PETKIT Purobot Ultra
The multi-cat pick: face-plus-weight records for up to 15 cats, stool images, a drum that stops on approach and a bin that seals its own bags, in the top price class. Cats over 22 lb, small bathrooms and owners who want generic trash bags should look elsewhere.

At a glance
What stands out
- 20 sensors; PETKIT states the drum stops as soon as a cat is near or inside, and its sideways rotation keeps the entrance open
- 1080p camera with a 210-degree lens recognizes up to 15 cats by face, pairs each visit with a weight and photographs the clumps
- Packs and seals a full bag at the press of a button and loads a new one; rated for up to 20 days with one cat, about 16 in Catster's test
- Odor control beat the Litter-Robot 4 in CNN Underscored's testing, and Catster smelled no litter over six weeks
- Clumping clay or tofu litter with two sifters, 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and a 2-year US warranty
Flaws to know
- Cats.com found face recognition labeled beta in the app and saw it confuse two cats that look nothing alike
- 20.94 x 32.2 in footprint, and CNN Underscored found the Litter-Robot 4 much quieter
- Bags work only with PETKIT's refill rings, and Cats.com found them thin enough to tear when full
- Small 9.84 x 8.54 in entry 10.43 in off the floor and a 22 lb ceiling; Cats.com's larger cats would not go in
- Full video playback and past days' activity need a paid PETKIT Care+ plan (Cats.com); no low-litter alert (Catster)

Who it's for
The Purobot Ultra is PETKIT's flagship litter box and the multi-cat pick on our self-cleaning litter box list. Its case rests on two things a weight-only box cannot do: an AI camera that PETKIT says recognizes up to 15 cats by face, and a waste bin that packs and seals its own bags. PETKIT rates it for cats from 3.3 to 22 lb and at least six months old, and for up to 20 days between bag changes with one cat.
It suits a home with two or more small or medium cats, especially cats of similar weight, and an owner who wants per-visit records and stool images to show a vet. It needs a hard, level floor and a spot about 21 in wide and 32 in deep. It is not for cats over 22 lb, a cramped bathroom, a single cat on a tight budget, or anyone who wants to use ordinary trash bags.
What stands out
The safety design is documented the way we require. PETKIT lists 20 sensors, including proximity and weight sensors, and states that the drum stops as soon as a cat comes near or steps in and stays still until the cat has left. The drum turns on a sideways axis, so the entrance is open at every point of the cycle; Cats.com's reviewer points out that this keeps a cat from being trapped even if the sensors were to fail. A kitten protection mode in the app switches off automatic and scheduled cleaning.
The camera is the reason to buy it. It records in 1080p through a 210-degree lens, has a microphone and speaker, and turns through 180 degrees between a view of the room and a view into the box, where it photographs the clumps after each cleaning cycle. PETKIT pairs the face with the weight reading, so two cats of the same size get separate records. Reviewed, which named it one of its two favorite self-cleaning boxes in July 2026, highlights those per-cat logs. Catster's September 2026 reviewer used the stool records to catch a spell of constipation in her cat.
Waste handling is the other standout. When the bin is full you press a button on the unit, and it packs and seals the bag and pulls a new one from a refill ring; PETKIT says one ring yields about ten bags. Catster found a bag filled about every 16 days with one cat, against PETKIT's 20-day rating, and noticed no litter smell over six weeks. CNN Underscored, which calls it the best box if money is no object, found its cleaning excellent and its odor control better than the Litter-Robot 4's. It takes most clumping litters, including tofu, within PETKIT's limit of 12 mm long and 3 mm across, and ships with two sifters. Wi-Fi covers 2.4 and 5 GHz, and the US warranty is two years.
Where it falls short
Face recognition is not settled. Cats.com's October 2025 review found the feature labeled beta inside the app and watched it mistake a long-haired calico for a short-haired tabby. The same review found that the stool check-up offers comparison photos rather than an analysis of your own cat's stool, and concluded the box was not worth its price. Later reviews are warmer, but treat the camera as a strong aid rather than proof.
Size and noise are real costs. At 20.94 by 32.2 in it is about 5 in deeper than a Litter-Robot, and AvailPet warns it will not fit many small bathrooms. PETKIT quotes 36 dB, yet CNN Underscored found the Litter-Robot 4 much quieter. The entry is small, 9.84 by 8.54 in and 10.43 in off the floor, under a 22 lb ceiling; Cats.com's larger cats looked in on camera and would not use it. Catster found the narrow opening makes pouring in fresh litter awkward, and there is no low-litter alert.
Running costs add up. The bagging system works only with PETKIT's refill rings, and Cats.com found the bags thin enough to tear when very full. Full video playback and earlier days' activity sit behind a PETKIT Care+ subscription, per Cats.com; Catster says the free tier is enough to get by but the advanced health tracking needs a paid plan. The box sits in the category's top price class.
How it compares
The Litter-Robot 5 Pro is the other camera box. It takes cats to 30 lb through a 15.75 in square entry on a 22 by 27 in footprint and comes with a 90-day trial, but its face identification and video history need Whisker+ and it accepts clumping clay only. The PETKIT wins on self-sealing bags, bin days, tofu litter and warranty length.
The Litter-Robot 4 has no camera and separates cats by weight alone, but it is quieter, has a wider entry and a 25 lb ceiling, and is the safer buy for one large cat or a tighter room.
Verdict
Buy the Purobot Ultra for two or more cats under 22 lb when you want each cat's visits, weights and stool images kept apart, and have floor space for a deep unit and budget for refill rings. Skip it for a large cat, a small bathroom or a single cat, where the Litter-Robot 4 is the better buy.
