At a glance

What stands out

  • Best overall pick in Tom's Guide's toaster oven guide (March 2026), whose tester found fries, vegetables and pizza fast and crisp
  • 5-quart air fry basket that Ninja says holds up to 5 lb of fries, plus a sheet pan for mains and sides together
  • Preheated in about 90 seconds in Tom's Guide's test, and the timer pauses when the doors open
  • Quieter than many air fryers: Tom's Guide measured a maximum of 64 dB

Flaws to know

  • One-year warranty, shorter than Breville's two years and the three Shouldit reports for Cuisinart's TOA-70
  • No shake or turn reminder, and the default bagel setting over-browned in Tom's Guide's test
  • Hand-wash guidance for accessories in the manual, per Tom's Guide, despite Ninja's dishwasher-safe claim
  • No independent lab measurements of temperature accuracy or toast evenness in our sources

Who it's for

The French Door Premier (model FO101) is Ninja's air fryer oven with two doors that swing open from the center instead of one door that drops down. It is the air frying pick on our countertop oven list and the current top pick in Tom's Guide's toaster oven guide, updated in March 2026.

It suits a family of three to five that air fries most nights: fries and wedges, roasted vegetables, chicken, frozen snacks and pizza. The combination of a 5-quart basket, a quick preheat and a sheet pan for a main and a side at once is built for fast weeknight cooking.

It is less suited to people who bake cakes and bread, where measured temperature accuracy matters, and to anyone who wants a large oven for whole turkeys. The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is the stronger choice for those jobs.

What stands out

Speed. Ninja claims a 90-second preheat, and Tom's Guide's tester saw it preheat within 90 seconds before making pizza. She then baked four homemade pizzas, one after another, in under 30 minutes, a job that would take her full-size oven much longer. In several of her tests, food was done a few minutes before the recipe time.

Air frying capacity. Ninja's included basket holds 5 quarts, and Ninja says it fits up to 5 pounds of fries, which it describes as the largest air fry capacity in a French door oven. In Tom's Guide's test, cubed sweet potatoes came out crisp outside and fluffy inside, and a sheet pan of sausages and peppers on the air roast setting was done in 20 minutes.

French doors. The doors swing out to the sides, so you can look in or shake a basket without a hot drop-down door hanging over the counter. Tom's Guide liked that the timer pauses whenever the doors open, which avoids undercooked food after a check.

Noise. Air fryer ovens can be loud because of their fans. Tom's Guide measured a maximum of 64 decibels during preheating and cooking, and found the noise level similar across settings. For comparison, Tom's Guide measured Ninja's older Double Oven at 65.8 dBA, the loudest it had tested.

Materials. Ninja says the cooking surface is made without PFAS, a point some buyers now look for after questions about nonstick coatings.

Where it falls short

Test data. Tom's Guide's review is thorough on cooking results, but we found no independent lab measurements of this model's temperature accuracy or toast evenness like TechGearLab's figures for the other three picks. Treat claims such as Ninja's "no rotating required" as the manufacturer's.

Toast and bagels. The toast and bagel settings let you choose one to six slices and a shade from one to seven. On shade four, Tom's Guide's bagel slices were over-browned and chewy after four minutes of a five-minute default. Start lighter until you learn it.

Cleaning claims conflict. Ninja's product page describes the accessories as dishwasher safe, while Tom's Guide says Ninja's manual advises hand washing the basket, racks, sheet pan and crumb tray. Follow the manual that comes in your box.

No reminders, short warranty. There is no prompt to shake or turn food, so set your own halfway timer for fries. The warranty is one year, against two for the Breville and three that Shouldit reports for the Cuisinart TOA-70.

Size. Ninja lists it at 16.53 by 15.79 inches and 13.48 inches tall, at 22.77 pounds. Tom's Guide found it took up a good amount of counter, though it is narrower than the Breville.

Temperature figure. Ninja rates its cyclonic air at up to 450°F, while Tom's Guide's spec box lists 400°F. We use Ninja's figure, but the discrepancy is worth knowing if you cook at the top of the range.

How it compares

Against the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, the Breville has more room, digital presets for baking and slow cooking, a two-year warranty and the best lab accuracy we found, but it preheats far more slowly and is wider. For the full head-to-head, including which oven has the easier controls, see our Ninja FO101 vs Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro comparison. Against a basket air fryer from our air fryer list, such as the Ninja DZ401, the French Door Premier toasts and bakes pizza, but uses more counter.

Buy the Ninja French Door Premier if air-fried weeknight meals are the main job, you want food started within a couple of minutes and you need a smaller, lighter box. The Breville costs more and carries the longer warranty.

Verdict

The French Door Premier is the pick for families who air fry often and want speed, a big basket and convenient doors in one box. The thin independent test record and one-year warranty keep it from the top spot. More options are in the kitchen category.
