Who it's for
The Core 600S is for the buyer with a big open space, a kitchen that opens onto the living room, a finished basement, a studio, who wants it cleaned fast and does not mind hearing the fan while that happens. Levoit states 391 cfm CADR and 606 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour, and HouseFresh's August 2026 measurement of 375 cfm PM1 CADR backs that up. Among the picks on our large-room list, only the Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max moves more air, and the Levoit usually sits in a lower price class.
It is not the purifier for a bedroom or a home office where you would run it on the quiet speeds. At those speeds it delivers a fraction of the rated output, as covered below.
What stands out
Raw cleaning speed comes first. In HouseFresh's test the Core 600S cleared its 728 cubic foot room in 16 minutes on speed 4, the fastest of the picks the site has measured (the Winix 5510 took 24 minutes). Power draw was 48.1 W at that speed, close to the 49 W Levoit rates it for, and between 7 and 21 W on speeds 1 to 3. Levoit's product page carries Energy Star and CARB logos.
The sensor is the second strength. The Core 600S uses a laser particle sensor for PM2.5 and shows the reading on the top panel; HouseFresh notes it reacts faster than an optical sensor and does not need cleaning every few weeks, and it means auto mode responds to dust and pollen, not just odors as the Winix 5510's sensor does. The VeSync app adds schedules, filter-life tracking and four selectable auto profiles (default, quiet, eco and efficient) that HouseFresh singles out, plus Alexa and Google Assistant control.
Practicalities are good. At 13.7 lb and 12.3 in square it is light and narrow for its output, and HouseFresh praises the deep handles for moving it between rooms. The cylindrical body draws air from all sides, so it can sit in a corner without losing much. In sleep mode a light sensor turns off the display and auto mode stays off the two highest speeds, and Levoit states the filter reaches HEPA-grade efficiency at 26 dB or below, citing an independent lab test to the IEST RP C001.7 standard.
Where it falls short
Noise is the trade-off for the airflow. HouseFresh measured 62.3 dBA at 3 ft on speed 4 and 53.8 dBA on speed 3. The manufacturer range of 26 to 55 dB uses a different method and should not be compared directly with those readings. More important than the top figure is what happens lower down: on speed 1, at 44.4 dBA, HouseFresh measured only 156 cfm and a 38-minute room clearance, and described the sound at that speed as an irritating whir. Run it quietly and you get medium-room performance with a tone some people will notice.
The filter is the second issue. It is a bonded three-in-one, pre-filter plus main filter plus activated carbon, and Levoit rates it for six to twelve months. When the carbon fills up, which happens first in a kitchen, you replace the particle media with it. HouseFresh's running-cost estimate assumes two filters a year. Each filter costs less than a Blueair or Coway replacement, but there are more of them.
Third, the HEPA wording. Levoit's filter page ties its HEPA-grade claim to sleep mode and backs it with an independent lab test. HouseFresh reports that Levoit sold the unit as HEPA H13 in 2022 and dropped that claim in 2023 after a Better Business Bureau challenge from Dyson, and PurifierBeast makes the same point: HEPA-grade in sleep mode only. In practice the measured CADR shows it catches fine particles well, but a buyer who specifically needs a certified HEPA element at full speed should know the claim is narrower than it looks.
How it compares
Against the Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max, the Blueair states about 10 percent more CADR, lists a top-speed noise figure well below the Levoit's measured 62 dBA and draws slightly less power, but its filter cycle costs more per year and it has no on-unit PM2.5 readout. The Blueair is the living-room choice; the Levoit is the workhorse for a space where noise matters less.
Against the Coway Airmega 400S, the Coway is quieter on paper, carries twice the carbon and has a five-year motor warranty, but it moves less air (328 cfm smoke CADR), weighs 11 lb more and sits a price class higher. Buy the Coway for odors; buy the Levoit for particles and speed. For the budget alternative, see our Levoit Core 600S vs Winix 5510 comparison, which weighs the Levoit's extra airflow against the Winix's separate 12-month carbon and HEPA filters.

Bottom line. Buy the Levoit Core 600S for an open-plan space up to about 600 sq ft, for dust and pollen control, or if you want auto mode driven by a PM2.5 reading. Buy the Winix 5510 for a bedroom or living room under about 400 sq ft, for cooking smells and odors, or if you want the cheaper unit with the lower yearly filter spend.
Verdict
The Core 600S delivers the most CADR per dollar of any large-room purifier on our list, with a real particle sensor and a good app. It is loud at the speed that earns those numbers, and its bonded filter needs replacing more often than the others. For an open-plan space where the fan can run hard it is the best value here; for a quiet room, look at the Blueair or Coway instead.
