Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select
The KBGV Select is the drip brewer to buy once and keep, with a five-year warranty and lifetime repair service behind it. It brews a 10-cup pot quickly and well, but it has no timer and its glass carafe sits on a hot plate.

Who it's for
The Moccamaster KBGV Select is for the household that brews a full pot every morning and wants the machine to last. It is the premium pick on our list of the best drip coffee makers not because it has more features than the others, but because it has fewer, and because the company behind it offers a five-year warranty and will repair it for the life of the brewer.
Moccamaster's US site now sells this model simply as the KBGV, in more than twenty colors; retailers and reviewers still call it the KBGV Select. The design has barely changed in decades, which Tom's Guide counts as a strength and Reviewed describes as retro-modern.
Skip it if you want coffee ready when your alarm goes off, need a thermal carafe, or usually brew one mug at a time.
What stands out
The brewing system is simple and fast. A copper boiling element heats the water, which rises through a tube to a shower arm and spreads over the grounds. Moccamaster states a brew temperature of 196°F to 205°F, inside the Specialty Coffee Association's golden cup window, and the company describes the model as SCA approved and ECBC certified. Tom's Guide timed a full 10-cup carafe at about six and a half minutes and a half batch at about four; Reviewed recorded roughly five minutes for a full pot.
The results hold up in taste panels. Reviewed names the KBGV Select its top drip coffee maker and says its panel found the coffee well balanced and clearly better than most machines produce. Tom's Guide gave it an Editor's Choice in a 2026 review and found it full-bodied without bitterness at a 1:18 ratio. TechGearLab tested the thermal-carafe sibling, the KBT, and made it its Editors' Choice for best-tasting coffee.
The half/full switch matters more than it looks. It gives you a shorter cycle for a smaller pot, which is useful on weekdays when only one or two people are drinking, and Tom's Guide found a full batch's 70 g or so of coffee fits easily in the basket. The basket also stops dripping when you pull the carafe out early.
Ownership is the real argument. Every Moccamaster carries a five-year warranty, the company sells replacement parts for all models, and its service technicians repair brewers for life, for a fee once the warranty ends. Tom's Guide calls it the best warranty of any coffee machine its reviewer has used. For a machine you run daily, that changes the cost-per-year math.
Cleaning is manual but uncomplicated. The shower arm, brew basket and carafe come off and wash by hand. Moccamaster recommends descaling every 100 cycles or at least every three months, and warns against distilled or reverse-osmosis water, which can damage the element.
Where it falls short
There is no timer of any kind. Reviewed and Tom's Guide both list the missing delay brew as the main drawback; you flip a switch to start.
The carafe is glass and sits on a hot plate with its own element. That keeps coffee hot, but it is the approach specialty-coffee reviewers usually avoid, because coffee held on heat for a long time tastes stewed. The US model switches off after 100 minutes. If you sip a pot over the whole morning, Moccamaster's thermal models or our programmable pick are better choices.
The water tank does not lift off, parts must be assembled in a specific order (Tom's Guide suggests practicing a couple of times), and many of those parts are plastic. Tom's Guide notes that a portion of its readers would prefer more metal at this price, although Moccamaster states all plastics are BPA, BPS, BPF and phthalate free.
It is expensive for a one-button brewer, and there is no single-cup mode.
How it compares
The OXO Brew 8-Cup is our overall pick: SCA certified, smaller, with a thermal carafe and single-cup brewing, but with a two-year warranty per Coffeeness and a less repair-oriented design.
The Breville Luxe Brewer Thermal is the modern alternative at a similar price class. Tom's Guide found it brews 60 ounces in about three minutes and it adds a delay start, a removable tank and a thermal carafe. Its warranty is two years.
Whichever brewer you pick, a consistent medium grind matters. The Breville Smart Grinder Pro covers drip settings and espresso if you also pull shots.
Verdict
The KBGV Select is the least complicated way to spend premium money on drip coffee: fast, well-extracted pots and a machine designed to be repaired rather than replaced. Buy it if you brew a full or half pot and drink it within the hour. If you want a timer or a thermal carafe, choose one of our other picks.
