DeWalt 20V MAX Corded/Cordless Air Inflator DCC020IB (Tool Only)
The inflator to buy if you already own DeWalt 20V MAX batteries: it swaps packs instead of waiting for a recharge, falls back on a 12 V cord, and covers air mattresses and pool toys as well as tires. It is too bulky to be a glovebox pump, and without the batteries it is poor value.

At a glance
What stands out
- Three power sources: a DeWalt 20V MAX battery, the included 12 V DC cord, or 110 V AC, per DeWalt
- Rated to 160 psi, the highest of the inflators on our list
- High-pressure mode with automatic shutoff for tires, plus separate high-volume inflate and deflate modes for mattresses and floats
- 3-year limited warranty, 1 year of free service and a 90-day satisfaction guarantee
- Road & Track found the preset and auto shutoff easy to use and liked swapping in a fresh battery
Flaws to know
- Tool only: battery, charger and the AC adapter are sold separately according to DeWalt's current listing
- About 13 x 10 x 5.5 in and 6.39 lb before a battery, far bulkier than a handheld pump
- Road & Track saw occasional low-power warnings and shutdowns on its truck's 12 V port that a restart cleared
- No published inflation-rate or duty-cycle figures from DeWalt

Who it's for
This is an inflator for people who already have a shelf of yellow batteries. If you own a DeWalt 20V MAX drill or impact driver, the DCC020IB turns those packs into an air supply that you can carry to a trailer, a wheelbarrow or a car in the driveway, and you can swap in a charged pack instead of waiting for an internal battery to recover. That is the whole case for it, and it is a strong one.
It also suits households that inflate more than tires. The separate high-volume mode moves a lot of air at low pressure for air mattresses, pool floats and paddling pools, and the deflate port empties them again for storage. A handheld tire pump like the Fanttik X8 Apex can technically fill a mattress, but slowly.
If you do not own DeWalt batteries, the arithmetic changes. You would be buying a battery and charger on top of the tool, and the result would still be bulkier than a cordless pump. In that case the Fanttik or the plug-in AstroAI AIRUN H is the better buy.
What stands out
Flexibility comes first. DeWalt lists three power sources: a 20V MAX battery, a 12 V DC cord that plugs into a car's accessory outlet, and 110 V AC. The 12 V cord is in the box; DeWalt's current listing says the AC adapter, like the battery and charger, is sold separately. In practice that means the inflator can keep working from the car if every battery in the garage is flat, which a single-battery cordless pump cannot do.
The tire side is straightforward. You set the target on the digital gauge before connecting, and in high-pressure mode the pump stops at that number. Road & Track found the display easy to read and the process free of guesswork, and DeWalt fits a threaded chuck rather than a clip-on one for a secure connection. DeWalt rates it to 160 psi, the highest figure on our list, which gives margin for light-truck tires near 80 psi and for high-pressure bike tires with the included Presta adapter.
The build reflects its power-tool origins. Heavy rubber feet stop it from walking across the floor while it runs, the accessories store on board so the needle and nozzles do not get lost, and there is an LED light for dark garages. DeWalt backs it with a 3-year limited warranty, a year of free service and a 90-day satisfaction guarantee.
Where it falls short
Size is the main trade-off. DeWalt lists it at about 13 x 10 x 5.5 in and 6.39 lb before a battery goes on, which puts it closer to a compact shop tool than a trunk gadget. Road & Track reached the same conclusion: if all you want is a small pump to leave in the car, this is overkill.
Road & Track also reported that when running from its truck's 12 V outlet, the inflator occasionally showed a low-power warning and shut itself off, even though the truck's battery was fine and other 12 V inflators in the test did not do it. A restart cleared the fault each time. It is a minor irritation at home and a real one at the roadside, so if you plan to rely on the 12 V cord, keep a charged 20V pack in the car as well.
DeWalt does not publish an airflow rating, a fill time for a given tire, or a duty cycle, so there is less to compare than with a VIAIR spec sheet. How long it runs on battery depends on the pack you fit; a larger pack runs longer and weighs more.
How it compares
The VIAIR EVC88P is the better tool for trucks and off-road tires: it clamps to the vehicle battery, publishes a 25-minute duty cycle at 30 psi and fill rates for tires up to 32 in, and has a 16 ft hose. The DeWalt is more versatile around the house.
Owners of Milwaukee M18 tools have their own equivalent in the M18 inflator, which Outdoor Life found much faster than anything else in its truck-tire test. It is battery-only, and we cover why it is not on the list in the best portable tire inflators.
Verdict
For DeWalt 20V MAX owners, the DCC020IB is an easy recommendation: it shares batteries you already have, falls back on 12 V power, carries the highest pressure rating here and a 3-year warranty, and handles mattresses as well as tires. For everyone else, it is too big and, once you add a battery, too costly compared with a dedicated cordless pump.
